Day Care for Sick Children

GEORGE G. STERNE MD1

1 Chairman, Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption and Dependent Care, American Academy of Pediatrics

In Reply.—

Dr Weinberg and I are in agreement concerning the importance of liberalized parental leave policies, as well as improved understanding and acceptance of certain minor illnesses in existing day-care centers. Beyond that point, I do not accept his hypotheses. He states that it is doubtful that corporations can or will pay for home care services or will they be willing to grant additional paid days off to parents. I do not believe there is any substantial basis for this opinion.
