I appreciate the remarks of Drs Fosarelli and Katz. Their study seems to confirm the results of my own work. As they point out, the clinical experience of a pediatric resident answering calls from patients with whom he is not familiar may not be far removed from the experience of a practitioner in a busy HMO setting. I await with interest publication of the full study.
