To the Editor.
I believe that the article by Davidson Ward (Pediatrics 1986;77:451-455) may adversely influence the use of home cardiorespiratory monitoring in the United States. There are several serious problems with this paper.
1. The authors admit that they only had responses from 35% of the apnea programs and 40% of the vendors in their state. This may have very seriously distorted their findings.
2. Death should not be the lone evaluation mode for benefit for home monitoring.
