Dr Kwasman has raised an important point, that androgen misuse by athletes is widespread, and this problem should be addressed by pediatricians in their offices when caring for such youth.1 As sports in which muscle strength or size is important are the most likely to be the ones for which the drugs are taken (weight lifting, throwing events in track, football, and muscle building), the physician should discuss this subject with every athlete seen participating in these events.
