To the Editor.—

I hope the article by Cogbill et al1 (and the companion piece by Rivara2) will become the seminal work in an area that needs to become better described and evaluated.

There are two issues that I would like to raise. First, I question the low incidence of major long-term disability (1%) that they describe. It is not clear the length of time after the injury that was covered in the retrospective review of the outpatient charts.
