In our initial report,1 we counseled parents to cleanse the noncircumcised penis after gentle retraction. We recommended that they wash the foreskin area as they would any part of the infant's body and emphasized that the prepuce should only be pushed back if it could be easily performed, never with any force. If the baby demonstrated any discomfort or if any resistance was felt, gentle retraction should be stopped. This was not an attempt to separate the prepuce.
