Dr Christoffel and her colleagues would have been correct if they had surmised that the author's intent was to promote discussion of the way in which public policy has been and is made in such important matters as the nutritional status and health of our children, as well as the prevention of low birth weight and its associated morbidity and mortality. If they are regular readers of Pediatrics they know that the journal has long had a "Letters" section in which readers have the opportunity to comment on published material.
