To the Editor.
The discussion section of the paper by Orr et al1 left this reader with an implication that obstructive apnea predicts being at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or, at least, that they are causally related. The authors state (p 835), "These data are especially relevant to the observations of Guilleminault et al who found that the frequency of upper airway obstruction effectively discriminates [emphasis added] infants with a high risk for SIDS from normal control infants."
