Roentgenology and Malabsorption Syndromes

DAVID S. SMITH MD1

1 St Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, PA 19133

To the Editor.—

The paper by Weizman et al1 in which radiologic manifestations observed in association with intestinal malabsorption syndromes are reevaluated is reminiscent of a similar concern in our department, some 40 years ago, that culminated in the paper, "The Roentgenologic Pattern of the Small Intestine in Infants and Children" by Henry Zwerling and Waldo E. Nelson.2 Naturally, I was not aware of their study until my association with Dr Nelson a few years later.

The stimulus for each of these studies was similar, viz, roentgenlogic demonstration of intestinal patterns that had been attributed to intestinal malabsorption (see references in each article) in children who had no clinical evidence of this disorder.
