To the Editor.—

In the editorial on the placement of ventilation tubes,1 three articles were referenced as showing controlled studies in which children had unilateral tube placement. In the paper by Kilbey et al,2 54 children between the ages of 4 and 12 years had a grommet placed in one ear and a myringotomy done in the other. In the paper by Lildholdt,3 90 children, between 1 and 10 years of age (average age 4 years), with recurrent suppurative otitis media excluded, were treated with unilateral grommet placement and adenoidectomy.
