Care for the Uncircumcised Penis
Circumcision: A Personal Choice
Circumcision education for parents is long overdue. Responding to this need in the spring of 1984, trhe American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued "Care for the Uncircumcised Penis" and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued "Circumcision: A Personal Choice" under the heading "Postpartum Care." Although such moves are most welcome, the ACOG publication falls short of the mark.
That there should be confusion about circumcision in the United States is all the more startling because in 1971 and 1975 the AAP stated: "There is no absolute medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn."
