To the Editor.—

I wish to bring to the attention of Pediatrics readers a cause of back trauma among urban adolescents. In the Comprehensive Child Health Program, we recently saw a male adolescent who complained of lumbar back pain, relieved by rest and aggravated by bending over and by vigorous physical activity. He had also noted a mass about the size of an orange in the center of his back; he denied any history of trauma to the area.
