Our attention was first caught by Food and Drug Administration statistics1 that showed that across the nation, the incidence of toxic events paralleled the number of prescriptions for tricyclic antidepressants except when one of them was prescribed for a child or sibling less than 10 years of age and suffering from enuresis. In these circumstances, there was a greater risk of a poisoning episode than when the drug was prescribed for neuropsychiatric reasons for an adult.
