To the Editor.—

In their recent article on chronic protracted diarrhea of infancy, Lo and Walker1 refer to some of the formulas that have been used in the management of this condition.

Carbohydrate malabsorption and intolerance are frequently the factors limiting intake during rehabilitation of these infants.2 Consequently, the type of carbohydrate is an important consideration in the choice of formula. The source of carbohydrate was inaccurately listed for most of the hydrolysate, low-lactose, and lactose-free formulas in their table 3.
