Neonatal Circumcision

To the Editor.—

In the June 1983 issue of News and Comments, the following letter to the editor was published.

Strong stand against routine circumcision

It is my impression that most physicians, and pediatricians in particular, are of the belief that routine neonatal circumcision in the male infant is not a medically necessary procedure. It is my understanding that the AAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn has made statements about the issue.

There are several reasons that are promulgated to justify the performance of the procedure.
