Parental Information and Circumcision: Another Look

To the Editor.—

We found "The Role of Parental Information in the Incidence of Circumcision" (Pediatrics 1982;70:597-598) to be most interesting. At Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, we performed a similar study. Pregnant women, followed by the obstetrical service, were given appointments to attend, with their husbands, a four-hour general counseling session during their eighth month of pregnancy. During the session, circumcision was discussed in such depth that it constituted informed consent. Women who did not attend the session received no structured informed consent.
