Neonatal Septicemia and Meningitis Due to Plesiomonas shigelloides

A case of neonatal septicemia and meningitis due to Plesiomonas shigelloides in a 2-day-old infant is reported. Presentation was similar to septicemia and meningitis caused by other Gram-negative organisms. This organism was correctly identified by employing oxdiase reaction and other chemical reactions. Two previously reported cases are reviewed.
