I wish to thank Whitson for his comments on my paper. I apologize for omitting to state the total number of patients with purulent conjunctivitis under subtitle "Patients, Methods, and Materials," as it was stated in the abstract. During the study period, a total of 132 patients with purulent conjunctivitis (including those associated with otitis media) was seen in the office. I might add here that many of these patients were visiting the office because of other symptoms, and that in these cases the diagnosis was made as a result of an active search for purulent conjunctivitis.
