I would like to thank Dr Madden for his praise of my article. I concur with his and Sokoloff's concern that existing Medicaid reimbursement schedules pose a potential deterrent to the provision of appropriate health care to foster children.1 This appears to be the case in Maryland.2
As outlined in the final paragraph of my article,3 the medical professional services that foster children require are extensive and time consuming. It is for that reason that i have some reservations about the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics4 that foster children be cared for by the same health care provider as the foster family.
