Agoraphobia and Imipramine Withdrawal?
1 548 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown, MA 02172
A recent report calls attention to antidepressant withdrawal effects in the newborn when these drugs are taken by the mother. We recently had a patient with imipramine withdrawal.
Baby F. was born at term after a normal vaginal delivery; Apgar scores were 8 and 9. Findings from the newborn examination were normal. Rapid breathing, which reached 100/mm, began at age 5 hours. Baby F.'s color remained pink in air, but the infant became terribly irritable, crying all the time, and could not be consoled. At all times the baby looked well and fed avidly.
