Letter to the Editor

Bourgeois, Dodson, and Ferrendelli appropriately list additional reported interactions between isoniazid and primidone; isoniazid and certain barbiturates; nicotinamide and primidone; and nicounamide and carbamazephine. These are in addition to the interaction mentioned in my recent report in Pediatrics (69:494, 1982) between isoniazid and carbamazepine. These reports should serve as warning that the levels of several anticonvulsant drugs can be altered when other medications (such as isoniazid) are added to the regimen.
My report and the letter of Bourgeois et al emphasize that this can be a clinical as well as theoretical problem.
