New Penny Is Not Expensive

Thomas R. Frye MD1

I was intrigued by the article on the radiodensity of the new penny by Dorst and associates (Pediatrics 69:224, 1982). It is reassuring to know that we pediatric radiologists will continue to be able to find pennies in our little patients who inhale and ingest them.

Hidden in the next to the last paragraph is a fact which I think is even more important as the authors may have inadvertently stumbled on one of the true monetary crises of our government.
