...many indices show that American medicine is [not] the best in the world.... Standards in some medical schools are low and sinking, and only a few schools are in a position to look down on foreign medical schools and their graduates. Naturally, such schools are exactly those who do not...discriminate and judge each applicant on merits. We badly need a new Flexner and one as astringent and sceptical as the last.
