Our study included 18 patients: ten with sustained and eight with labile hypertension and our conclusions are based on this sample. Whether larger studies will confirm our results remains to be seen.
Dr Boiko states that the patients with essential hypertension "were not sex, weight, race, or activity matched to the normal control subjects." In each of the two groups there are nine boys and one girl. The patients with sustained hypertension included eight whites and two blacks, and the mean weight was 72.3 (± 3.6 SE) kg.
