Letters to the Editor

We feel that a number of important issues are raised by the letters in response to our literature review on working mothers. First, we would agree with Dr Katcher that the phrase "working mothers" is indeed a misnomer. Certainly women who work in the home as full-time mothers and homemakers work hard and make a significant and necessary contribution to society as well as to their own families, a contribution that public policy does not appropriately recognize and reward. In our review, however, we were dealing with the particular concerns and conflicts that arise when a mother is working or is deciding to return to work as a paid employee outside the home.
