Neonatal Death
1 Children's Orthopedic Hospital and Medical Center, Seattle, WA 98105
The eloquent articles on neonatal death by Elliott and Hem (Pediatrics July 1978) raise several questions. (1) How many practicing pediatricians, let alone academicians, provide routine follow-up care to the families of their patients that die? (2) Can more compelling testimony exist than these two pieces, in favor of establishing this practice as a standard in pediatrics? (3) Might the day ever come when the various groups responsible for training, review of standards, and assessing competency, allow points for a pediatrician's ability to provide comfort?
