Delayed Cardiopulmonary Arrest After Lomotil Ingestion
1 Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, The Ohio State University, and Children's Hospital Research Foundation, Columbus, Ohio
A 2-year-old boy had cardiopulmonary arrest 12 hours after ingestion of an unknown amount of a diphenoxylate hydrochloride and atropine sulfate compound (Lomotil). This history was obtained retrospectively after repeated denials of possible drug ingestion. We conclude that Lomotil toxicity, in particular, should be considered whenever a patient has respiratory depression many hours after suspected ingestion of a drug and that in general, drug ingestion should he excluded when unexplained coma or cardiopulmonary arrest occurs.
REPORT OF A CASE
