It's Been Done Before

I read with interest the article by Dr Nickerson and his colleagues from Arizona. In the discussion the writers quote Dr Rudolph as suggesting the theoretical possibility of catheterizing the pulmonary venous trunk via the portal vein. The authors say that Dr Rudolph indicated that catheterization of the pulmonary venous trunk had not been reported. They then go on to rightly make the point that the saturation of umbilical venous blood can make the diagnosis in this complex and difficult situation.
