In Reply: Type Haemophilus influenzae Infections

Gerald R. Greene MD, MPH1

1 Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, University of California Irvine Medical Center, 101 City Drive South, Orange, CA 92668

In my recent article in Pediatrics,1 which reviewed meningitis due to Haemophilus influenzae other than type b, the statement is made that no cases of meningitis due to type c or d had been reported until that time. There have been two reports of type d meningitis published subsequent to that article, and a previously mentioned case has been brought to my attention. The above report by Drs Bromberg and Peter represents the first described case of meningitis in a child due to H influenzae type d.
