International Year of the Child—1979

R. J. H.

The following two commentaries were solicited to acquaint pediatricians with plans in the United States (Aldrich) and in Europe (Wagner) for implementing The International Year of The Child—1979 (IYC-79). Plans were not solicited from other areas of the world, not because of lack of activity—for I have heard that several other areas of the world have extensive plans—but because I did not know whom to contact. As is evident from Aldrich's commentary, the United States is just now starting, and its activity is, to date, largely a series of meetings of agencies. In contrast, Europe has a variety of interesting projects already in action.
