We would like to report a complication that resulted from using a nasal oxygen catheter in a manner similar to that described by Pinney and Cotton.

A 2-month-old boy with a large ventricular septal defect was admitted with fever, severe congestive failure, and hypoxemia. A feeding catheter was inserted 2 to 3 cm into one nare and nebulized oxygen was supplied at a flow rate of 0.5 liters/min. The catheter used was a No. 8 French Cutter Resiflex with a blind tip and two side holes. There was a p-off on the nebulizer.
