In Reply: Comment on Soy Protein Intolerance

Peter F. Whitington M.D.1

Kuitunen et al. published a comprehensive report of the clinical findings in 54 patients with cow's milk intolerance.1 This report included four patients who reacted to soy-containing formula. I am embarrassed that I failed to note this in our work. After submitting our paper for publication, another report appeared in which G. K. Powell discussed two infants with combined cow's milk and soy protein intolerance and whose disease simulated necrotizing enterocolitis.2 Surely other authors have mentioned similar patients, if not by name then by symptoms.
