Steiner's Dismay

Michael L. Steiner M.D.1

1 North Palm Beach, Florida

I read with dismay and a mounting sensation of frustration the letter by Davis entitled, "It's the Right Direction," which appeared in the November 1975 issue of Pediatrics (page 840). Our specialty seems to be suffering from an autoimmune disease within its ranks characterized by an everincreasing attempt by certain of those in academic pediatrics to relegate the private pediatric practitioner to hospital-based status. I for one believe that pediatricians should offer primary care to children and that they are not "overtrained for the delivery of well-child care."
