Article Stimulates Review of Immunization Practices

Don S. Overend M.D.1

1 Smith-Glynn-Callaway Clinic, Pediatric Department, Springfield, Missouri

The article by McDaniel et al. in the October 1975 issue of Pediatrics was surprising and somewhat appalling: surprising, perhaps, because more studies of this kind have not been done, and appalling because of the apparent poor record of practicing pediatricians in maintaining immunization rates. I am sure that many practicing pediatricians proceed smugly under the assumption that children under their care are adequately immunized.

The article served to prompt a quick and superficial review of immunization procedures within our pediatric group.
