As a member of the Academy and a practicing private-office ice pediatrician, I should like to note in the journal another type of "child abuse." I refer to needless pain which is inflicted by physicians upon children in the form of intramuscular ular injections which are simply not necessary! How many such "shots" are given to generate increased income when oral medication alone will suffice (e.g., tonsillitis, otitis media)? Why must children live in fear of the doctor? I believe they should not.
