The purpose of Dr. Frazier's book, as stated in the preface, is to "discuss allergy in children in such a way as (1) to be helpful to parents and, thus, to allergic children, and (2) to assist in making the complex business of allergy a bit more comprehensible to the nonmedical reader. " It is a very readable book, in which the author clearly presents information obtained from his own experience in the practice of clinical allergy and from traditional teaching. Particularly helpful to parents might be the chapter describing the allergist's evaluation of their allergic child, emphasizing the importance of a thorough history, and chapters containing descriptions of common allergens, references and recipes for those on restricted diets, information concerning camps and homes for asthmatic children, and the detailed review of reactions to biting and stinging insects.
