It is apparent that routine tuberculin skin testing of youngsters has become a very low-yield activity. Although the expense of the skin test is minimal, it is well to review the purpose of using any diagnostic procedure, the likelihood that the results of the examination will lead to useful action, and the expense of the procedure. It has become evident that routine tuberculin tests throughout the child population of this country can no longer be recommended.
