Observations on Dilute Hexachlorophene

Gilbert I. Martin M.D.1

1 Magan Medical Clinic Covina, California 91723

I read with great interest the article entitled "Neurotoxicity of hexachlorophene in the human. " The authors state that there was "no association between the vacuolar encephalopathy and recorded subtotal exposure to 3% hexachlorophene as specific localized cleansing preparations or to ‘diluted’ pHisoHex; only the number of baths actually recorded as baths in undiluted pHisoHex correlated with the lesion." The absence of lesions in the Children's Orthopedic Hospital group correlated well with the difference in bathing technique and dilution.
