We appreciate Dr. Chesney's comments regarding our article. The review of pathologic states in which hyperuricemia occurs, as well as the several hypotheses for possible mechanisms of elevation of uric acid levels in blood, are of interest. However, the purpose of our paper was to caution those who institute low-carbohydrate therapy for obese, otherwise healthy, individuals, about this potentially harmful complication.
