Another View of Data on Serum Thyroxine in RDS

George G. Graham M.D.1

1 Department of Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland

The article by Redding and Pereira reports that a group of premature infants with RDS had lower mean serum thyroxine levels than a group of prematures "comparable by gestational age" who did not develop RDS and implies a possible causative effect.

Table I of the article indicates that of the 40 prematures with RDS, 10 had a gestational age of less than 29 weeks, 10 had a gestational age of 30 to 33 weeks, and 20 had a gestational age of 34 to 37 weeks.
