Methylphenidate Reaction

Shader and DiMascio, in their book Psychotropic Drug Side Effects (1970), state "In spite of the fact that methylphenidate is one of the few psychotropic drugs that is widely available and recommended for use in the treatment of the hyperkinetic syndrome in children, remarkably few reports document adverse reactions to the drug." This is true of our experience at Children's Research Center. However, out of a total of 130 research subjects, one manifested a striking idiosyncratic reaction.
