What's Going On With Car Seats?

I was recently asked by a patient's mother for help in choosing a car seat for her child. Although I had seen advertisements for this type of product, none of my pediatric journals contained any information about the child automobile restraint devices available. Looking elsewhere, I found only confusing and conflicting statements.

The material from the American Medical Association pointed out that although car seats built after April 1971 had to meet federal standards, many unsafe models built earlier could still be purchased.
