What About Fluoride for Infants?

Morton H. Berman M.D.1

1 14 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, New York 10606

In the excellent review of dental caries detection and prevention by Dr. Ripa.1 I was unable to find a schedule or suggestion for flouride supplementation in infants on prepared formulas. I assume, since no water need be added to the formula, that his suggestion would be flouride drops or flouridated vitamins in essentially the same schedule as breast-fed babies.

Also, Dr. Ripa fails to take into account the fact that most children under the age of 3 or 4 years do not drink water and that many children under 1 year are not eating foods cooked in water.
