Dr. Marcel Kinsbourne's lecture on school problems which appeared in the November 1973 issue of Pediatrics1 has prompted the following comments. Issue should be taken with the statement "children hate to take medication because it means they are different, and the last thing a hyperactive child wants to do is take methylphenidate or dextroamphetamine." Our experience has been quite different. Hyperactive children appear to be acutely aware of their difference when they are responding chaotically and impulsively to environmental stimuli.
