Dr. Littman's letter demonstrates the extent to which I have obviously failed to make myself clear to him (and perhaps to some others); and for this I apologize. I believe that a re-reading of my Commentary will convince him that I am entirely with him in his misgivings.

In particular, (1) I did try to stress my own misgivings about the unreasonable and unscientific extrapolation from rat to man which is prevalent in the literature;
