Dr. Cassels should be congratulated on attempting a monograph on this subject. This reviewer's first reaction before opening the cover of the attractively packaged book was to saywhy? But on reading the table of contents and getting into such content, the "why" was answeredpositively.
There are 25 chapters, varying from history, embryology, histology, anatomy, etc. to hemodynamics, theories of patency, pulmonary hypertension, and the effects of patency of the ductus arteriosus on growth. Each chapter is well illustrated, with specific anatomical drawings, usually of excellent quality.
