An Attacked Committee Replies

Committee on Drugs1

1 American Academy of Pediatrics

The number of the Letters to the Editor in response to the reply of the Committee on Drugs to the letter by Drs. Livingston et al. regarding amphetamines and epilepsy indicates that the Committee has kicked a hornet's nest. This is perhaps due to the fact that the Committee is in a sense challenging the empiric use of drugs, a practice which we all engage in everyday.

There is no question in the Committee's opinion that certain drugs are used in the physician's best judgment in instances where scientifically acceptable data are not available.
