Let me write in support of the letter of Livingston et al. in the November issue of Pediatrics. The use of amphetamines or other analeptics in the treatment of nocturnal seizures is a time-honored one, dating back to at least the early part of the 19th century. As is often the case with traditional forms of therapy, well-controlled studies on children are not available. However, we too have followed several children who have experienced generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal) during their sleep.
