Child Neurology in the Community Hospital Setting

Morton E. Weichsel Jr. M.D.1

1 Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, East Lansing

Data are presented relating to the first 100 child neurological consultations seen in both ambulatory and inpatient settings in a community hospital practice in conjunction with a medical school teaching program. These data suggest that a great variety of interesting child neurology cases for teaching may present at the community hospital. Such cases may offer students at all levels the advantage of seeing a greater variety of neurological diseases earlier in the course of evolution, and provide a more realistic environment for a comprehensive approach to the psychosocial problems related to chronic neurological disease in childhood.
