Management of the Decision to Die

Lawrence L. Menzer M.D.1

1 Division of Cardiology, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California 90054

I was quite moved and impressed by the thought-provoking article, "The Adolescent Patient's Decision to Die" by Schowalter et al.1 In the face of great medical advances we are still far behind in solving the great emotional, religious, and ethical problem of passive and active euthanasia.

I sincerely hope that the author's suggestion to "gather a body of medical literature of individual cases" will be heeded and that your journal will aid by offering its pages as a means of communication.
